How to Prevent Mould on Your Block-Out Curtains

Mould can develop on block-out curtains, especially in humid weather and in rooms with poor ventilation. It affects the appearance of your curtains and can be difficult to remove. With proper care and good ventilation, you can help to keep your block-out curtains free of mould.
Understanding the Risk of Mould
Mould thrives in environments with high humidity and poor ventilation. Block-out curtains are often made from thicker fabrics. While these fabrics are excellent for blocking light and insulating your home, they can also trap moisture, particularly during rainy seasons or in poorly ventilated rooms.
Ventilate the Room Every Day
To help prevent mould, the room needs to be well ventilated. Open your windows every day to allow fresh air to circulate.
Vacuum Every Few Months
Vacuum your curtains once every few months using a handheld vacuum cleaner. The curtains should be in the stacked position while you vacuum.
Remove Marks Straight Away
If soil, oil or food marks get onto the curtain, remove them straight away using a baby wet wipe. Do not use harsh chemicals or bleach on the fabric.
Follow the Fabric Care Instructions
Always follow the fabric care instructions for your curtains. If block-out curtains need to be washed, they should not be hung to dry in direct sunlight, and the rubber-backed layers should not touch each other.
